Description

Greendale Farm Park, is a small friendly caravan and camping site with 15 touring pitches, surrounded by rolling countryside. Cows and/or sheep may be in the adjoining fields.  We are 6 miles from Rutland Water.

Greendale has developed into a quiet adult only site geared to those wanting a calm and relaxing stay.

Ideal for walking, cycling [3/4mile from the National Byway cycle route], bird watching, art, eating out, heritage, Barnsdale Gardens and of course Rutland Water. This huge scenic reservoir has nature reserves [famous for the osprey project], sailing, fishing and cycle-routes [bike hire available] with attractive stone villages nearby.

We are a short walk from the village where excellent food is available with two pubs and a bistro/coffee shop/ delicatessen. There is also a working windmill renowned for its organic flour.

Rutland , often referred to as the Secret England, is a beautiful and interesting county with lots of places to visit for all tastes. Nearby Rutland Water provides a wonderful opportunity for water sports, cycling, walking, climbing [at Rockbloc], trout fishing, cruising on the Rutland Belle and for visiting the butterfly /aquatic centre or the amazing nature reserves and bird watching centre. The reserves are home to both the Osprey Project [the first osprey chick to hatch in England for 150 years] & the British Birdwatching Fair each August. Geoff Hamilton’s Barnsdale Gardens is just a few minutes drive away and the National Space Centre within 35 minutes. For those interested in heritage we have Oakham Castle and are central for Rockingham, Belvoir & Grimsthorpe Castles & Belton & Burghley Houses: besides museums & other interesting places. Our tourist information section has literature on all of these and much more.

Nearby Oakham, the county town is “rich in history and character” with some good quality small shops and lots of pubs and restaurants. If you know Lands End clothes, you will want to check bargains [25 – 60% off] at their retail outlet. Melton Mowbray, also a market town, in the other direction is very different in character and is famous for Stilton cheese, pork pies and its weekly market. The towns of Uppingham and Stamford are a must to visit whilst the larger cities of Nottingham, Leicester and Peterborough are all within a ¾ hour drive.

As a very quiet site, with an unprotected brook, Greendale has just changed to being an adult park. We simply don’t have the space that most children need to play with neither cycling nor ball games permitted on site.

Our stream is kept as a conservation area and the campsite has been granted a David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award. Over 75 different species of birds have been spotted from the site, with 30 reported in one day! The declining tree sparrows breed very successfully here and can be viewed at many of the feeders & bird boxes arranged over the site. Reference books are available in the library; wild flowers are encouraged and low light pollution allows superb stargazing on clear nights.

We hope this information has encouraged you to come and visit us. A warm welcome is certainly guaranteed! Please telephone, or E-mail, if you would like any further details.

Directions

Greendale Farm Caravan & Camping Park is easily found just off the A606, four miles north of Oakham and six south of Melton Mowbray. Caravans must approach from this road and not through the village. Otherwise the turning in is very tight.)

From Melton Mowbray: Follow the A606 towards Oakham. Ignore the first two turnings to Whissendine. Turn left 0. mile after the Rutland sign and immediately after a triangular small left turning sign & opposite a brown camping sign. The campsite is approximately 0.6 mile along on your right.

From Oakham: Follow the A606 towards Melton. Ignore the first turning to Whissendine but take the second smaller turning on the right, opposite a camping sign.
